June 20 (UPI) — Louisiana State University supporters have set a new record in an unconventional College World Series tradition. They successfully ordered and consumed over 21,000 Jell-O shots from Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina in Omaha.
Kevin Culjat, the owner of Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina, introduced the concept of Jell-O shots in school colors during the 2016 College World Series. Since then, the Jell-O Shot Challenge has become an annual tradition for fans to demonstrate their support for their favorite schools.
In 2022, the University of Mississippi achieved the previous record by ordering 18,777 Jell-O shots during the ten-day tournament.
However, LSU, making its first College World Series appearance since 2017, surpassed that figure on Monday. The number of Jell-O shots ordered by LSU fans reached an impressive 21,435.
The total amount of shots was further boosted by Todd Graves, the founder of fast food restaurant Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, who spent $30,000 to purchase 6,000 shots and distribute them among fellow fans. Graves also established a record for the most shots ordered by an individual.
The number of shots ordered by LSU fans continued to rise and had reached 22,462 by early Tuesday afternoon.
