A suspect has been apprehended for allegedly committing a deadly assault on his roommate in Long Beach, according to the police. On Monday, Saleem Omom Smith, a 46-year-old resident of Long Beach, was taken into custody near their residence on Magnolia Avenue. The Long Beach Police Department reported that Smith has been charged with murder and is being held on $2 million bail.
The incident took place on July 24 at their home on Magnolia Avenue, where Smith allegedly attacked and killed Marcus George, aged 50. The police stated, “Detectives believe George and Smith were roommates and involved in a dispute, which escalated into a fight and resulted in George’s death.”
Authorities were alerted to the situation at around 9:05 p.m. on July 24, when a report came in about an unresponsive man inside the residence. George was found on the floor with upper-body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of filing charges later this week.
