The National Air Traffic Service (NATS) of Britain informed Insider on Monday that safety measures were implemented due to a “technical issue” with their flight-planning system. Manual processing of flight plans resulted in several cancellations.
Although the issue was resolved by Monday afternoon, approximately one-third of all flights to and from the UK were canceled, as reported by The Times.
As a result, thousands of British passengers, who had travel plans on the public holiday, may face delays returning home. Some are even exploring alternative transportation options, according to BBC News.
