Vote tally to remove McCarthy

After days of contention over stopgap spending measures to avert a federal shutdown, Speaker Kevin McCarthy, with the support of over 200 Democrats, successfully passed a continuing resolution on Saturday, ensuring government funding through mid-November. As expected, hard-right Republicans, led by Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida, have called for McCarthy’s removal as Speaker, culminating in a resolution to declare the speakership vacant filed by Gaetz on Monday evening.
Given the narrow majority of Republicans, McCarthy will require support from across the aisle to retain his position. If enough Democrats vote in his favor, abstain, or do not participate, the threshold for a majority may be low enough for McCarthy’s supporters to secure it.
The House is scheduled to vote on the motion Tuesday afternoon. You can track how each member votes here.
