Leona Maguire narrowly trails by only two strokes in pursuit of her second LPGA title

In an impressive performance, the talented golfer from Co Cavan, Ireland, recorded five birdies in a three-under 69 at Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids. This places her in fifth position with a score of 13-under par.

However, she is currently two shots behind the leader, Amy Yang from South Korea, who shot a remarkable 67. Ashleigh Buhai from South Africa, Xiyu Lin from China, and overnight leader Ayaka Furue from Japan are also tied for the lead with a score of 12-under par.

Reflecting on her performance, Maguire expressed satisfaction with her solid performance, despite not fully capitalizing on the par-fives like she did in the previous round. She aims to improve in the next round and maximize her birdie opportunities. Maguire’s consistent driving was a highlight, and she made an impressive up-and-down shot on the 17th hole. Although she found the greens a little slower than expected, she remains optimistic about her performance tomorrow and plans to tee off earlier to take advantage of the fresher greens.

Having finished as the runner-up in the previous two years, Maguire understands the importance of performing exceptionally well in the final round. She has experience both leading and coming from behind. However, she remains focused on her own game and plans to go as low as possible without getting distracted by the leaderboard.

In the Ladies European Tour, Olivia Mehaffey delivered a solid performance with a one-over 73 in the third round of the Amundi German Masters. She is currently tied for fifth place with a score of eight-under par. Cara Gainer from England and Kristyna Napoleaova from the Czech Republic are leading the tournament with a two-stroke advantage, followed closely by Diksha Dagar from India. Mehaffey is determined to become the first Irish winner on the Ladies European Tour, and she is tied with Virginia Elena Carta from Italy and Meghan MacLaren from England.
