A talented vocalist is taking legal action against the Los Angeles Master Chorale, claiming that her employer has wrongfully denied her requests for coronavirus testing as an alternative to vaccinations, citing religious and medical objections.
In her lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Virenia Lind accuses the Los Angeles Master Chorale of religious discrimination, failure to accommodate religious beliefs, failure to accommodate disabilities and medical conditions, failure to engage in the interactive process of determining reasonable accommodations, discrimination based on disabilities and medical conditions, and failure to prevent discrimination.
Lind is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. The Los Angeles Master Chorale has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
Lind claims that in 2021, the Los Angeles Master Chorale placed her on unpaid leave after mandating that all employees receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
“Lind is unable to receive COVID-19 vaccines due to her sincerely held religious beliefs as a Christian, which include considering abortion as a sin and the use of products developed using aborted fetal cell lines as a sin,” the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit further alleges that Lind cannot receive the vaccine due to the potential reaction with her angioedema. Lind informed the management about her religious and medical objections to the vaccination mandate and proposed testing for COVID-19 with an appropriate protocol. However, her request for accommodation has allegedly been denied, which is a violation of the state Government Code.
The discriminatory actions of the Los Angeles Master Chorale have resulted in Lind experiencing lost income and emotional distress, according to the lawsuit.
