Lawsuit Alleges Shein Violated RICO Laws with Fast-Fashion Practices

Shein, the popular online retailer known for its trendy and affordable clothing, is facing a lawsuit accusing the company of engaging in “egregious” copyright infringement. The complaint, filed in California federal court, alleges that Shein copied and sold exact replicas of designs created by three designers. The lawsuit claims that Shein’s actions amount to racketeering under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The company is accused of committing individual copyright infringements as part of a larger pattern aimed at producing a staggering number of new items each day. This lawsuit is just one of the challenges Shein has recently encountered; lawmakers have also called for an investigation into the company’s alleged use of forced labor. Shein, which generates annual sales of almost $30 billion, has declined to comment on the pending litigation.
