Latest Update on FBI Investigation: Rainbow Bridge Crash and Explosion, No Links to Terrorism Found

The FBI announced that the car crash and explosion at the border have been handed over to the Niagara Falls Police Department for a traffic investigation. A statement from the FBI Buffalo emphasized that their search uncovered no explosives and no evidence of terrorism.

Officials in the news conference have also echoed this, assuring the public that there is no apparent indication of this event being a terrorist attack. Governorn Kathy Hochul reported the conclusion, indicating that there were no signs of explosives at the scene.

The incident, which happened at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls and caused the bridge to close, involved a speeding vehicle hitting a booth on the U.S. side, exploding, and launching into the air which resulted in both driver and passenger deaths. A booth agent was also injured, but thankfully has been released after treatment. Officials mentioned the difficulties posed by the congested area, emphasizing the potentially destructive implications of the event.

In terms of the investigation, the vehicle was seriously damaged and identification is made difficult due to the lack of a license plate. The government has also reiterated that the cause of the incident is still under review and the investigation would need time due to the extent of the damage.

Fortunately, the situation has remained contained and the nearby Peace, Queenston-Lewiston, and Whirlpool-Rapids Bridges in Canada have reopened, following closures as a safety measure earlier in the day. Emergency measures were also taken at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and by the President and Prime Minister, in response to the situation’s severity.
