In a thrilling showdown, Patrick Yu of National University (NU) rose to the occasion in overtime, leading the Bulldogs to an 80-77 victory over La Salle in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament. Yu’s coach, Jeff Napa, scolded him during regulation for not taking a shot, so when he found himself open in overtime, he took the opportunity and made crucial shots. Napa emphasizes the importance of his players taking their shots when open. Jake Figeroa also played a significant role, hitting a game-tying triple to send the match into overtime.
The victory improved NU’s record to 4-1, with the Bulldogs proving their worth as contenders in the season. However, the team now shifts its focus to their upcoming game against the University of the East (UE).
Adamson Triumphs
In another game, Adamson emerged victorious against UE with a 72-65 win. Despite UE’s strong comeback in the third quarter, Adamson’s players displayed resilience and prevented the opposing team from gaining easy scoring opportunities. The Falcons now hold a 3-2 record, while UE falls to 2-3.
Meanwhile, La Salle suffered its second loss in five games despite a commendable performance from Kevin Quiambao, who scored 25 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and contributed four assists.
