LAPD Makes Arrests in Homicide Case: Man and Teenager in Custody; Second Homicide Suspect Identified

In a significant development, the police announced the arrest of an adult man and a 14-year-old boy in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy at a recreational center in Boyle Heights. Surprisingly, the adult suspect is also alleged to have killed another man just a few days later.

The victim, Alfonso Ramos, was tragically shot at the Evergreen Park Recreation Center on August 12. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) revealed that their investigation led them to identify two suspects.

One of the suspects has been identified as 26-year-old Michael Monarrez, while the other is a 14-year-old juvenile. The detectives were actively pursuing the pair when a second incident occurred on August 17.

The police were called to the scene at Lorena Street on August 17, where they discovered another victim, Fermin Ruelas, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Subsequently, Monarrez was arrested as a suspect in Ruelas’ killing. The 14-year-old boy involved in Ramos’ murder was apprehended by investigators on August 18.

The arrests were announced during a news conference held at LAPD headquarters on Thursday morning. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has charged Monarrez with two counts of murder. Simultaneously, a petition for murder has been filed by the District Attorney’s Office against the juvenile for the murder of Ramirez.

According to the LAPD, Ramos was approached by two individuals inside the recreation center on August 12. Following a brief altercation, one of the suspects brandished a weapon and opened fire, tragically claiming the life of the young teen. Both suspects then fled the scene.

Ramos was working at the recreation center when he was shot, as per a GoFundMe page set up by his mother. The page describes him as a vibrant individual with a great sense of humor, determination to grow, and a deep love for his family. He leaves behind four siblings.
