LOS ANGELES — Attention all detectives and concerned citizens! We need your help in providing information on other potential crimes committed by the recently apprehended suspect involved in the Chinatown-area business robbery. This shocking incident, caught on surveillance video, revealed the suspect assaulting a brave female store employee who tried to intervene.
The arrest of Courtland Thornton, 31, took place on Friday in Hawthorne. In a desperate attempt to escape authorities, Thornton concealed himself in a backyard. Currently, Thornton is in custody with bail set at $1 million.
Thornton is believed to be responsible for a robbery that occurred on September 14, just before noon, on the 800 block of North Broadway, near North Spring Street.
The surveillance footage depicts the suspect barging into the establishment, violently pushing the female employee to the ground, and then seizing property from behind the counter. Whenever the employee tried to thwart his actions, he ruthlessly assaulted her again, pushing her to the floor and then fleeing the scene. As a result of this brutal attack, the woman had to be hospitalized for her injuries.
