LAPD and Sheriff’s Department Vigilant in Response to Urgent Pleas from Former Hamas Leader

The Los Angeles Police Department and County Sheriff’s Department are actively responding to calls for action by a former Hamas leader. They have been closely collaborating with Jewish and Muslim communities to monitor demonstrations.

As of now, the LAPD has not discovered any credible threats towards the city or religious communities. However, there are planned demonstrations throughout the weekend in response to the conflict in Israel. It began last weekend when Hamas terrorists attacked, kidnapped, and killed Israelis.

“We are diligently monitoring these events and coordinating with various levels of government for information sharing. Our close monitoring will continue,” stated the LAPD on social media.

Sheriff Robert Luna declared that his department is closely monitoring activity in the county. He further added, “We are aware of recent statements calling for action regarding the Middle East conflict. Currently, we have no specific or credible threats in our areas. Nevertheless, we are continuously assessing the situation for any possible local impact in Los Angeles County.”

“We encourage the community attending demonstrations to remain calm and peaceful. Our top priority is the safety and security of all our communities. We remind residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement officials,” Luna emphasized.

Other local law enforcement agencies also issued statements with a similar theme of increased patrols, urging residents to stay alert, and assuring them that no known credible threats exist in the area.

“We understand the growing concern in our community regarding recent violence in Israel and statements made by Hamas,” the Fullerton Police Department stated. “Our officers on patrol are closely monitoring the situation, and we are collaborating with local and federal partners. At present, there are no known direct and credible threats at the local level.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray acknowledged on Thursday that the agency was aware of information circulating on the internet about an alleged “Hamas call for action or demonstrations” on Friday. The FBI is actively working to verify the authenticity of such a call.

Wray stated, “We cannot dismiss the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations might exploit the conflict to incite attacks on our soil.” The New York Times reported that national security officials engaged in a call with approximately 4,000 law enforcement officials across the country to address these concerns.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles reassured local organizations that there is currently “no known credible threat to the Los Angeles Jewish community.” However, they advised Jewish groups and residents to remain vigilant, avoid protest areas, contact 911 if they feel endangered, and report suspicious activity to the police.

Due to potential safety concerns unrelated to their ongoing strike, the striking SAG-AFTRA actors union announced the cancellation of all picketing activities in Los Angeles and New York City on Friday.

On Thursday, there were pro-Palenatine demonstrations at UCLA and USC campuses, as well as a pro-Israel demonstration in Encino.
