Aug. 25 (UPI) — After 14 years, a Wisconsin man’s lost wedding ring has finally been returned to him, making for a remarkable story. Mike and Tracy Kroening, who reside near Mercer and own a property on the shore of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, recounted their long wait for the ring’s return. In 2009, while tossing a kid into the water during a visit to Swimmer’s Island, Mike’s platinum wedding band slipped off his finger, causing it to sink beneath the waves. Despite searching for hours and days, they were unable to find it.
“As I threw him, he grabbed my hand and pulled my platinum wedding band off of my hand, and it was lost,” Mike explained. “So we immediately quarantined the area, so to speak, went and got diving masks and we looked for the wedding band for many, many hours and days.”
The couple returned to the location numerous times in the hope of locating the ring, but their efforts were in vain. However, recently, to their surprise, the Turtle Flambeau Flowage and Trude Lake Association announced on their Facebook page that another visitor had discovered the lost ring and handed it over to the association to search for its owner.
Suddenly, Mike caught sight of a picture of the ring on the association’s page. “I saw a picture of a ring, it looked just like my ring, and again, 14 years later it was stained with the color of the water,” he revealed.
Excitedly, Mike contacted Bill Stewart, the administrator of the Facebook page. Stewart was astonished by the quick turnaround. “What just blew me away was within a half an hour, I had a message from Mike. First of all, I was surprised we found anybody, and second of all, I was surprised it came so quickly,” Stewart said.
Mike described the inscription on the ring to Stewart, ensuring its authenticity, and was soon reunited with his long-lost symbol of love. Reflecting on the reunion, he likened it to finding a needle in a haystack or winning the lottery, although he humorously added that he had yet to win the lottery.
