LAFC Guard Accused of Causing Woman to Tumble Down Two Rows of Stadium Seats

The Los Angeles Football Club is currently facing a lawsuit filed by a woman who claims that she was forcefully grabbed by a security guard and consequently tumbled down two rows of stadium seating during a 2021 game against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The plaintiff, Luz Rubira, has filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing the club of assault and battery, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, as well as negligent hiring, training, and supervision. Rubira is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages, the specific amount of which remains unspecified at this time.
An official spokesperson for the LAFC has not yet responded to the allegations brought forth in the lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday.
The incident in question occurred on August 28, 2021, at the venue formerly known as Banc of California, where Rubira and her son attended the match. According to the lawsuit, a security guard approached Rubira and her son’s seating section, falsely accusing Rubira’s child of throwing a cup of beer without any provocation or reason. The guard proceeded to approach the son in an attempt to remove him from the area. Rubira, who was seated between her son and the guard, found herself caught in the middle of the altercation, resulting in her being physically seized by the guard. The lawsuit claims that the guard used excessive force, violently throwing Rubira aside to reach her son.
As a result of being forcefully thrown, Rubira fell down multiple rows of seats, sustaining severe injuries and experiencing emotional distress, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit further asserts that the LAFC should have been aware of the guard’s incompetence or unfitness for the job. It is worth noting that the LAFC’s current home stadium is now called the BMO Stadium, situated on Figueroa Street.
