City officials in Los Angeles announced on Friday that over 50 individuals experiencing homelessness were relocated to local motels as part of an operation called Inside Safe in Pacoima.
Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, who represents the Seventh District including Pacoima, stated that addressing homelessness challenges is complex, particularly when encampments cross multiple jurisdictions.
“The collaboration between my office, L.A. County, the state, and Mayor Karen Bass has enabled us to successfully address the needs of those encamped at Ritchie Valens Park and its surrounding areas,” said Rodriguez.
She emphasized that the efforts resulted in housing more than 50 individuals and ensuring the safety of the community open space.
Rodriguez affirmed her commitment to pursuing innovative and transparent initiatives that prioritize providing shelter for people.
Bass added that the city will continue to work urgently to bring people inside.
“The homelessness crisis requires this level of response,” said Bass. “I want to express my gratitude to Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and Councilwoman Rodriguez for partnering with me on bringing Inside Safe to Pacoima and for our ongoing efforts to develop a regional approach in effectively addressing the crisis.”
This operation in Pacoima marks the 22nd Inside Safe encampment within the city.
“Thanks to the successful operation this week, the city-county partnership is helping bring people indoors throughout Los Angeles and the Third District, including Pacoima,” stated Horvath, who represents the county’s Third District.
“By providing services and safe shelter, we are creating stable foundations for individuals to rebuild their lives.”
Since June, the mayor’s Inside Safe initiative has facilitated the relocation of over 1,300 unhoused Angelenos to motels and other temporary housing solutions.
