Kushner and Hicks Provide Testimony to Grand Jury in Election Probe

By Kaitlan Collins and Katelyn Polantz | CNN

Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, voluntarily appeared before the grand jury investigating the aftermath of the 2020 election and the actions of the former president and others, confirmed a reliable source familiar with the testimony.

Hope Hicks, former Trump aide, also testified before the grand jury in early June, according to two sources familiar with the situation.

One of the focal points of the grand jury investigation was whether Donald Trump was informed that he had lost the election, as reported by one of the sources.

The participation of Kushner and Hicks in the grand jury proceedings is significant due to their close involvement with the former president. Any indictments resulting from the extensive probe into the post-election period, attempts to overturn the results, or the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol will likely rely, at least partially, on the sworn testimony of individuals ranging from low-level aides to former Vice President Mike Pence, as disclosed behind closed doors.

A spokesperson for Kushner, who served as a senior adviser to Trump during his presidency, declined to provide immediate comment. The New York Times broke the news about Kushner’s testimony.

Several key officials from the Trump White House, including Pence, former chief of staff Mark Meadows, and former White House counsel Pat Cipollone, among others, have also testified before the grand jury, as previously reported by CNN.

CNN has also revealed that Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump White House communications director now working as a CNN political commentator, met with federal prosecutors for a formal, voluntary interview as part of the ongoing special counsel probe, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Investigations by special counsel Jack Smith’s team have also involved meetings with election officials from crucial battleground states who were targeted by Trump and his allies during their attempts to undermine Joe Biden’s legitimate victory in the 2020 presidential election.

As reported by CNN, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, along with Arizona GOP official Rusty Bowers, have been interviewed by prosecutors in recent months.

Benson mentioned that investigators seemed particularly interested in “the impact of the misinformation on [election workers’] lives and the threats that emerged from that from various sources.”

“Myself and the election officials who have been speaking to authorities either by request or voluntarily, want to ensure that the law is upheld. We believe that evidence of wrongdoing should result in justice being served,” added Benson.
