Original Story 6/11/2023: According to a Best Buy listing, Silent Hill 2 Remake features a playable origin story for the series’ iconic villain, Pyramid Head. The preorder listing for Silent Hill 2 Remake on Best Buy Canada promised the return of Pyramid Head “along with a special origin story for fans to play through”.
Konami has not previously confirmed this detail, but the information provided by Best Buy likely comes from official sources. IGN has reached out to Konami for comment. Developer Bloober Team, responsible for remaking the beloved horror game for Konami, has affirmed that they will “faithfully” adhere to the original game’s story, leading to confusion about the nature of this origin story.
On Reddit, discussions indicate many fans believe (and hope) that the origin story is a potentially poorly worded reference to Born From a Wish, a side story that takes place during the early events of Silent Hill 2. This side story was released in some Silent Hill 2 special editions and re-releases, making it part of the original story’s canon.
Several fans have expressed concern over the potential inclusion of Pyramid Head’s own playable origin story. However, others argue that the reference in the listing could be to Born From a Wish. There are differing opinions on the interpretation of Best Buy’s statement about the game.
