Kim Kardashian Shares Her Prenuvo MRI Scan Experience on Instagram

  • Reality star Kim Kardashian recently shared her experience undergoing a Prenuvo MRI scan.
  • Celebrities are attracted to this treatment due to its purported ability to detect diseases at an early stage.
  • However, experts warn that this can lead to unnecessary diagnostic testing that may do more harm than good.

Renowned celebrity Kim Kardashian recently underwent a comprehensive MRI scan through Prenuvo, a company claiming to offer early disease detection to save lives.

Prenuvo, the startup utilized by Kardashian, asserts that it can detect as many as 500 abnormalities and diseases. It has become a favored choice among celebrities who can afford the $2,500 cost for a full-body scan.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Kardashian shared a photo of herself in scrubs posing with a Prenuvo MRI machine, describing the technology as “life-saving.” She also remarked that the scans had “truly saved the lives of some of my friends.”

According to her caption, “The Prenuvo full-body scan has the ability to detect cancer and diseases such as aneurysms in its earliest stages, before symptoms arise.” Kardashian compared the experience to getting an MRI for an hour without any radiation.

Kardashian’s family has previously promoted MRI scans as a preventive health solution. In a July episode of “The Kardashians,” Kris Jenner, the matriarch, also underwent a screening at Prenuvo, receiving a clean bill of health.

As reported by Insider’s Palmer Haasch, the billionaire family has a history of endorsing expensive healthcare options inaccessible to most people outside of elite circles. However, a representative from Prenuvo declared that they do not engage in paid sponsorships.

Kardashian’s representatives have not yet responded to Insider’s request for comment, while the representatives for Prenuvo remain silent as well.

Prenuvo: The Advanced MRI Machine

A Prenuvo scan is essentially an MRI scan since it utilizes an MRI machine. Like all MRI machines, Prenuvo generates three-dimensional images of internal body structures without using X-rays or radiation.

Doctors frequently employ MRI machines to evaluate and diagnose a multitude of health conditions like tumors, cardiovascular issues, and autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

The founders of Prenuvo claim that their scans can identify abnormalities beforehand, facilitating early diagnosis and treatment. If any unusual findings are detected, patients can consult their primary care physicians for further follow-up.

The company also asserts that its machine is more innovative compared to those found in hospital settings. According to Andrew Lacy, Co-founder of Prenuvo, their imaging protocols rely heavily on a combination of anatomical imaging and novel functional imaging techniques, enhancing the accuracy of MRI in distinguishing various conditions.

A Prenuvo scan comes with a substantial price tag: $1,000 for a torso scan, $1,800 for a head-and-torso scan, and $2,500 for a full-body scan. Insurance is not accepted.

Medical Experts Raise Concerns

Dr. Matthew Davenport, Vice Chair of the American College of Radiology’s Quality and Safety Commission, has expressed his disapproval of Prenuvo scans. He deems them a terrible idea that may encourage patients to undergo unnecessary diagnostic testing. MRI scans are highly sensitive and can detect benign findings that appear abnormal, leading previously unconcerned patients to undergo risky procedures such as biopsies, which may not be necessary.

The American College of Preventive Medicine also advises against whole-body scans for asymptomatic individuals due to a lack of evidence supporting their effectiveness.

While Kardashian claims that Prenuvo scans have saved her friends’ lives, the company has not published any data demonstrating the early detection of diseases or improvement in health outcomes through their scans.

Insider has reached out to Kardashian’s representatives for comment, but no response has been received at this time.
