Kevin Spacey, Hollywood star, overwhelmed with emotion as he is acquitted of sexual misconduct charges

After a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, Hollywood star Kevin Spacey, aged 64, has been acquitted of multiple counts of sexual assault. The allegations against Spacey spanned from 2001 to 2013. The jury deliberated for 12 hours and 26 minutes before reaching their verdict.

As the verdicts were announced on Spacey’s birthday, he couldn’t help but shed tears of relief. He placed his hand on his chest, mouthing “thank you” twice to the jury panel before they exited the room. Judge Mr Justice Wall granted him permission to leave the dock. The emotional actor then embraced his legal team and wiped away his tears.

Throughout the trial, Spacey maintained his innocence, referring to the allegations as “madness” and a “stab in the back.” The prosecution claimed that Spacey had aggressively assaulted four men, including grabbing their crotches and engaging in non-consensual sexual activity. However, the jury rejected these claims.

Under intense questioning from Spacey’s lawyer, Patrick Gibbs KC, the accusers denied having any ulterior motives such as seeking financial gain or advancing their careers. They also insisted that their accounts were truthful.

One of the complainants alleged that Spacey grabbed his crotch forcefully while driving him to a glamorous party hosted by Sir Elton John in the early 2000s. Another man claimed that Spacey’s behavior at a West End theatre in the mid-2000s was extremely inappropriate, describing it as a “barrage of vile comments” followed by the crotch grab.

The defendant faced accusations of a panicked expression after an alleged sexual advance was rejected at an expensive property in the Cotswolds in the early 2010s. An aspiring actor also testified about a disturbing incident in the late 2000s, waking up to find Spacey performing a sex act on him.

The trial attracted attention due to the involvement of famous individuals. The defense even called Sir Elton John as a witness to support Spacey’s character. Spacey himself mentioned his friendship with Dame Judi Dench and his gift of a ping pong table to her. He also shared anecdotes about staying in Richard Harris’s son’s flat during the 1980s.

After the jury delivered their not guilty verdicts, the Crown Prosecution Service released a statement expressing their respect for the court’s decision.
