Ken Bruce to spearhead innovative new radio station dedicated to Sixties music

The esteemed former Radio 2 DJ, who had a remarkable tenure of over three decades at the BBC, recently made a move to a mid-morning weekday slot at Bauer Media in April of this year. In this new role, he curates a delightful playlist of hit songs from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

In an exciting announcement on Thursday, Greatest Hits Radio unveiled the launch of an innovative digital station called Ken Bruce’s Secret 60s, which is the first of its kind dedicated solely to the iconic decade. Ken Bruce’s Secret 60s, set to launch on Friday, will showcase legendary singers and the most iconic songs from that era. However, this exclusive station will only be accessible to subscribers of Greatest Hits Radio Premium, according to Bauer.

The 72-year-old Bruce, slyly confessing his penchant for Sixties records, expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture: “I must admit, I’ve been slipping a few Sixties tracks into my show on the sly. So, the prospect of having a whole station to play around with is incredibly exciting. You can definitely expect all the greatest hits, but I’ll also be unearthing some hidden gems that may have slipped from your memory. I’m sure many of you will agree that this was the soundtrack of our youth. I can’t contain my anticipation for you to experience it, but for the love of secrecy, please keep it to yourself!”

During his inaugural show on Greatest Hits Radio, the Scottish broadcaster set the tone by playing “Come Together” by The Beatles, the opening track from their acclaimed Abbey Road album released in 1969.

The station’s name, Ken Bruce’s Secret 60s, was bestowed by an avid listener of Greatest Hits Radio, Chris Benson. He will have the honor of participating in Bruce’s regular Golden Years segment on Friday, where he will share three songs from a specific year that hold personal significance to him. The 41-year-old, hailing from Bradford, expressed his delight, stating, “While I thoroughly enjoy the eclectic mix of ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s music on Greatest Hits Radio, the addition of this secret enclave dedicated to classic Sixties tunes is simply fantastic. It almost feels like Sixties music is considered taboo nowadays, so in my mind, this new station is like an underground club. The fact that Greatest Hits Radio embraced my suggestion of Secret 60s as the name demonstrates the station’s incredible engagement with its audience. Being invited to chat with Ken on air was a delightful surprise!”

This exciting new development promises an immersive experience filled with nostalgia and musical excellence, as Ken Bruce’s Secret 60s transports listeners back to a transformative era in music history.
