Have you ever been curious about what Fox personalities are like off-camera? Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some of your favorite Fox personalities and discovering who they truly are behind the scenes. What can’t Jesse Watters live without? What’s Bill Hemmer’s favorite Halloween costume? And what decorates Greg Gutfeld’s nightstand? But wait, there’s more! We’ve only just begun the fun.
This week, we’re thrilled to highlight Johnny “Joey” Jones, who joined Fox News as a contributor in 2019. He provides military analysis across all Fox News Media platforms, including Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, and Fox Nation. Not only that, but he’s also the author of the captivating new book, “Unbroken Bonds of Battle: A Book of Heroism, Patriotism, and Friendship.”
P.S. We have so much more in store for you. Make sure to stay tuned for new editions of “Short Questions with Dana Perino” every week. And if you have any burning questions or suggestions for the next person I should interview, don’t hesitate to leave a note in the comments section below.
This week, Dana Perino dives deep with Johnny “Joey” Jones, discussing the significance of honor, the importance of friendships, military recruitment, the joys of being a girl dad, and so much more. Don’t miss out on this enlightening conversation.
Q: What does honor mean to you, particularly in relation to the military?
JJJ: Honor is a word we often use with great reverence, yet we rarely take the time to truly understand its meaning. To me, honor serves as a compass for decision-making. It’s about acting in a way that upholds the expectations, sacrifices, and traditions of what and who I represent. It’s about being worthy of the associations and privileges bestowed upon me.
Q: How crucial are the friendships you’ve forged over the years in thriving after sustaining your injuries?
JJJ: Friendship is truly a treasure in this vast and magnificent world. It’s the knowledge that someone cares for you and invests in you simply because they enjoy your company. My friends have been there for me, reminding me to invest in others and helping me recognize my own worth. Professional success may be a constant pursuit, but friends ground us and remind us of our accomplishments.
Q: What steps can we take to improve military recruitment?
JJJ: It is essential to reconnect military service with the communities we serve. People crave challenges and respond to them wholeheartedly. We need to shift the conversation from “How can we make this easier for you?” to “Do you have what it takes?” Military service demands dedication and determination, and we need to present it as such.
Q: What has surprised and delighted you the most about being a girl dad?
JJJ: My daughter has the power to break my heart with a single tear and mend it with a simple kiss. As a man, I grew up understanding that my purpose is to provide, protect, and love. Having a daughter intensifies those core principles beyond measure. She embodies both sweetness and spunk, accompanying me on outdoor adventures and then inviting me into her imaginative world of Barbies. Being a girl dad is simply amazing.
Q: What’s your favorite Southern dish or comfort food?
JJJ: Picture this: Pork steak, fried potatoes, poke salad, pinto beans, and cornbread, all cooked to perfection in a cast iron skillet. That’s my definition of comfort and deliciousness.
Q: Whose opinion do you value above all others?
JJJ: Generally, the opinions I hold in high regard are those that will be most affected by my decisions. My family is at the top of that list. My wife’s input on important matters holds great weight, as all I want is to make them happy. Additionally, my brother-in-law, a brilliantly insightful career fireman, has a remarkable ability to help me see beyond fleeting distractions. Likewise, I greatly value the opinions of my fellow Marines in a group text, as they guide me in representing my service accurately.
Q: What’s your all-time favorite movie?
JJJ: Choosing just one is a challenge, but if I had to, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” would be my top pick. However, movies like Charlton Heston’s portrayal in “The Ten Commandments,” along with classics like “Tombstone” and “Road House,” come incredibly close.
Q: What defines a true Southern gentleman?
JJJ: Respect is the cornerstone of a true Southern gentleman. We value respect for our family, responsibilities, faith, land, and animals that coexist with us. We showcase respect in our language, work ethic, the gentle touch of our calloused hands, and in the way we treat people and things in our lives. Additionally, it doesn’t hurt to have a favorite college football team, a deer rifle, and a fishing pole. We handle challenges, hold doors open, and tackle difficult tasks without complaint, all with a smile and a heart full of gratitude.
Q: If you could hunt any game in the world, what would it be?
JJJ: Although I’ve been fortunate enough to hunt North American bull moose, which was a spiritual experience, my favorite animal to hunt remains ducks. They can be found in every state, and shooting them presents its own set of challenges. You never know which type of duck will come in, and the best part is that you can enjoy it alongside all your friends.
Q: What’s the one place on Earth you’re most eager to visit?
JJJ: Argentina during dove and duck season is high on my travel bucket list. I’ve heard incredible stories about the awe-inspiring sight of a thousand doves gracefully landing all around you. It’s something I’d love to experience firsthand.
