John Schneider Looks Back on Final Moments Shared with Wife Alicia

John Schneider reflects on his ongoing grief following the passing of his wife, Alicia Allain Schneider. He admits that feeling “OK” is still far away as he continues to process his emotions.

In a heartfelt interview, the actor, best known for his role in “Dukes of Hazzard,” shares the details of his final conversation with Alicia before her death on February 21 at the age of 53. Schneider reveals that his last words to her were not completely honest, possibly to spare her worry.

“I told her it was OK,” Schneider recalls in an interview with People this week. “I said, ‘If you’re tired, if you want to go see your grandma, your grandpa, if you want to go, then it’s OK. You go.’ And that was the truth.”

“But then I lied and said, ‘Don’t worry about me; I’ll be OK,'” he adds. “It was a lie I had to tell, but she knew it. Feeling ‘OK’ is a long way away.”

Schneider and Alicia, who was a filmmaker and music producer, started dating in 2015 and tied the knot in Louisiana four years later. They collaborated on music and several films, including “Poker Run” in 2021 and “Tres Leches” in 2022.

During a Fox News interview in 2020, the couple opened up about Alicia’s Stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis and the prognosis that she had three more years to live. Although Alicia went into remission that year, her cancer returned in 2021 and spread to her bones.

Despite standing beside his wife throughout her illness, Schneider wasn’t present at the moment of her passing. He speculates that she intentionally waited for him to be away because she knew he couldn’t handle it.

The actor shares his last words to Alicia: “I love you desperately, and I have multiple long-term plans for you.” He firmly believes in eternal love and expresses his faith in their reunion in the future.

Since Alicia’s passing, Schneider has honored her memory by getting a thumbprint tattoo. He has also been working on a new album, titled “We’re Still Us,” dedicated to her memory.

However, Schneider acknowledges the challenge of shifting his focus from her absence to cherishing her presence. He confesses, “I have to learn to see where she is, not where she’s not. It’s difficult, but with each passing moment, my love for her grows, and yet, so does my longing for her.”
