John Legend Reveals How he Embraces his Father’s Legacy as his Family Expands: “I’m My Dad’s Son Without a Doubt”

John Legend’s household is experiencing an increase in joy and love as his family grows. He and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, recently welcomed their fourth child, Wren, in June with the assistance of a surrogate.

Legend acknowledges that he sees his father in himself as his family expands.

“I also resemble my dad’s side of the family and I often find myself saying things that he would say,” Legend shared with CBS News. “I am definitely my father’s son.”

Legend and Teigen faced challenges while growing their family. Teigen revealed last year that they had to make the difficult decision to have an abortion in order to “save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance.” They had initially described the loss of their son, Jack, as a miscarriage.

They ultimately chose to use a surrogate while also attempting to conceive naturally, resulting in having two children just five months apart.

“We were essentially pursuing two paths to see if at least one of them would succeed,” Legend explained. Their surrogate has become an integral part of their family, according to Legend.

The couple found solace in sharing their struggles with others.

“It’s a more common experience than people realize. Opening up about it has exposed us to countless other stories of individuals going through similar situations,” Legend revealed.

Legend and Teigen recently celebrated a significant milestone: their 10th wedding anniversary. They marked the occasion in Italy, where they originally tied the knot. Instead of a vow renewal ceremony, they chose to exchange heartfelt, personal speeches.

“After spending years together and enduring all the ups and downs, the tragedies and triumphs, and all the joy, I believe our anniversary holds even more beauty and meaning than our wedding day itself,” said Legend.
