MANILA, Philippines – Johann Chua and James Aranas pulled off a thrilling victory over Chinese-Taipei’s Ko Pin-Yi and Ko Ping-Chung, winning 9-8, to secure a spot for the Philippines in the semifinals of the World Cup of Pool in Lugo, Spain.
Chua and Aranas, with a record of six straight wins and a lead of 8-2, faced a tough challenge as Chinese-Taipei staged an impressive comeback, winning six consecutive racks to tie the game at 8-8.
In the deciding game, Ko Ping-Chung missed a crucial shot, giving Chua and Aranas the opportunity to close out the match and secure the win for the Philippines.
The Filipinos will now face Austria’s Albin Ouschan and Mario He in the semifinals. The Austrian pair defeated Great Britain’s Jayson Shaw and Elliott Sanderson, 9-4, in the quarterfinals.

The final match will also take place on Sunday.
Despite almost squandering their commanding lead, Chua and Aranas showed composure and determination to secure the win for the Philippines.
