Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Thursday’s practice, leaving team owner Jerry Jones to express his thoughts on the loss Friday morning.
While speaking on 105.3 The Fan, Jones referred to Diggs’ injury as a “setback for everyone” within the organization due to the impact Diggs had on the field.
“No one possesses the same impact as him,” Jones stated. “Although we have other players who can play the position, no one can replicate his unique abilities.”
When asked about potentially acquiring a cornerback from outside the organization to compensate for Diggs’ skills, Jones dismissed the idea. He firmly believes that there are no players available who can fill the void left by Diggs.
“You can’t do that,” Jones said. “It’s unrealistic. It’s like saying ‘I want to be Tom Cruise.’ These irreplaceable players cannot be replaced.”
The Cowboys will have an opportunity to test their new cornerback approach against the Cardinals this weekend. A subpar performance might prompt Jones to reconsider seeking additional assistance. However, it’s difficult to argue with his sentiment that no one can truly replace Diggs’ impact on the defense.
