Jennifer Lopez has decided against pursuing her own directing projects in the future due to her marriage to Ben Affleck.
In an interview conducted on May 4 with the Associated Press, Lopez stated, “I’ve toyed with the idea of directing, but now that I’m married to an Oscar-winning director and I see what it takes to really do it at that level, I’m like, ‘Maybe, maybe no.'”
Affleck has received numerous awards for his work as a director. His 2013 film, the historical thriller “Argo,” won the Best Picture award at the Oscars. He also received a Golden Globe for Best Director that same year.
In a 2012 interview with The Washington Post, Affleck revealed that he first considered directing in 2003 following the negative reception of his film “Gigli,” in which he starred alongside Lopez.
He described the media attention and harsh reviews as detrimental to his career and spirit, stating, “I thought, ‘I’ve been wanting to direct for so long, if there’s ever going to be a moment to take two years away from acting and shoot and release, this is the time.'”
Affleck made his directorial debut with the crime thriller “Gone Baby Gone” in 2007, four years after the release of “Gigli.”
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their relationship and got married in 2022, nearly twenty years after calling off their initial engagement in 2004.
