Keith Jefferson, the well-known actor who starred in acclaimed movies like “Hateful Eight” and “Django Unchained,” sadly passed away at the age of 53. His representative confirmed the news of his death on Thursday.

Back in August, Jefferson revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, his representative, Nicole St. John shared the details.

During his battle with cancer, Jefferson faced the challenge head-on. He wrote, “Every now and then, God will give you a challenge and leave it up to you to fix it. When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I had to stop, pause, and didn’t want to share with anyone. Not my family nor extended family. Today, I’m finally at a place to share because my faith is getting stronger.”

Jefferson, originally from Houston, had a strong background in theater, earning a BFA in musical theater from U.S. International University in San Diego and an MFA in acting from the University of Arizona. He made his onscreen debut in 1995 with the film “Boys on the Side.”

One of Jefferson’s closest friends in the industry was Jamie Foxx, and they collaborated on several projects. IMDb lists their collaborations. The two became friends in college, and Jefferson even made two appearances on Foxx’s show, “The Jamie Foxx Show.”

Foxx expressed his grief over Jefferson’s passing with a heartfelt post on social media. He wrote, “This one hurts. Keith, you’ve been nothing but absolute grace. Your whole life, your heart is pure, your love is immeasurable. You were an amazing soul. We will all miss you dearly. It’s gonna take a long time for this to heal. Goodbye, my friend. I love you.”

Jefferson made his mark in the industry with memorable roles, including Pudgy Ralph in “Django Unchained,” Charly in “The Hateful Eight,” and Land Pirate Keith in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
