Actress Iza Calzado revealed that her one-year hiatus from showbiz, due to her pregnancy and giving birth to baby Deia, didn’t provide her with the rest she expected. Nonetheless, Iza is thrilled to be promoting the horror trilogy “Shake Rattle & Roll Extreme” and supporting producer Regal Entertainment in their efforts to have the film included in the lineup for the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in December.
During the teaser and cast reveal organized by Regal on Wednesday night, Iza told reporters, “Yes, this is my comeback from motherhood. Although I worked on other projects during the pandemic, I had to take a pause for over a year. It felt too short, like I never really had a chance to rest. But now, the comeback is real. It’s amazing that it coincides with the return of ‘Shake.’ It feels wonderful to be back working.”
All worth it
Iza prefers to share her aspirations for the film rather than discuss her expectations. “Honestly, when I work on projects, I don’t set expectations because it only adds unnecessary pressure. I prefer to enjoy the process of making a film,” Iza explained. “What I truly hope for is that more people will come and watch the movie. This is not just for ‘Shake,’ but for the entire industry. I pray that Filipino audiences will return to cinemas. Let’s start by doing this for ‘A Very Good Girl,’ which opened on September 27. We trust that the success of that movie will signify the resurgence of Philippine cinema—that’s my heartfelt prayer.”
Iza promised to do her best to persuade the audience to watch “Shake” through effective promotion. She added, “However, we, the cast members, won’t be able to achieve this without your help. Luckily, we have content creators as part of the cast. We’re relying on them because, these days, social media is where people consume content faster.”
Iza also emphasized that watching “Shake” in theaters will be a worthwhile experience. “It’s three movies in one. We’ve all seen the teaser, and I’m not just saying this because I’m part of the movie, but when I watched it, I felt proud of the project. Borrowing the film’s title, we are ‘extremely’ grateful and proud of the work we’ve done for Regal. We’re also ‘extremely’ excited to be part of the MMFF. Whatever the decision of the selection committee may be, we will accept it. We hope for the best.”
Aside from Iza, the film also stars Jane Oineza, Jane de Leon, RK Bagatsing, Paul Salas, Paolo Gumabao, AC Bonifacio, Donna Cariaga, Miggs Cuaderno, and Rob Gomez. Influencers Esnyr Ranollo and Ninong Ry are also part of the cast. The episodes are directed by Richard Somes, Jerrold Tarog, and Joey de Guzman.
During the event, the cast members shared their plans to promote the film and create buzz around it. Esnyr expressed his enthusiasm by saying, “I’m so happy to be in this film, and I’ll definitely promote it on all my social media platforms. As part of the content, I will enter a haunted house with Ate Iza and Jane. Everyone should watch out for that.” RK, on the other hand, mentioned his intention to cross over and appear on the various platforms of his co-stars. He said, “We need extreme collaboration among the actors, content creators, and directors. I hope to utilize all forms of media to promote the movie.” Dustin also shared his plans, stating, “I will make sure more people get to see the teaser. I will post a lot of behind-the-scenes photos and videos. I also did a minivlog while we were shooting. Collaboration is important to me, and we help each other out through collaboration.”
Regal Entertainment executive Roselle Monteverde expressed her satisfaction with the cast, writers, staff, and directors, stating that they all gave their best for the film. She declared, “Whether we get included in the MMFF lineup or not, I promise that this movie will provide a great theater experience.”
“Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme” features three episodes. “Glitch” tells the story of a nontraditional family that discovers the existence of an insidious creature when it invades their home. “Rage” follows a group of thrill-seekers on a trip to watch a meteor shower, only to find themselves fighting for their lives when the meteor rocks spread a deadly disease. Lastly, “Mukbang” takes place the night before a massive fan event. A group of influencers and content creators gather in a luxurious mansion for a collaboration, but as the night progresses, they discover that two of their own are shape-shifting monsters with a taste for human flesh.
