It is up for regulators to make the decision.

Microsoft is emphasizing its efforts to address regulatory concerns regarding its bid to acquire Activision Blizzard in the UK. Brad Smith, Microsoft’s vice-chairman and president, stated that the company took these concerns seriously and is awaiting the regulators’ decision. The new proposal submitted by Microsoft has been restructured, and the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority will review it by October 18. Smith stressed that Microsoft has not dismissed or downplayed the concerns but has actively worked to address them and create a transaction that promotes competition while mitigating anti-competitive concerns. He acknowledged that it is ultimately up to regulators to determine whether the path is clear. Furthermore, the CMA clarified that Microsoft will not acquire cloud rights for existing Activision PC and console games, as well as new games released by Activision, for the next 15 years. Instead, those rights will be acquired by French gaming publisher Ubisoft before Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. Smith emphasized that addressing regulatory concerns is necessary for companies to come together and advance innovation while ensuring compliance.
