Isle of Man TT claims the life of Raul Torras Martinez.

Spanish motorcyclist Raul Torras passed away on Tuesday following an accident during the first Supertwin TT race of the 2023 Isle of Man TT event. The 46-year-old, hailing from Sant Hilari Sacalm in Catalonia, crashed between the 16th and 17th mile markers at Alpine, with the impact proving to be fatal. Torras had recorded his fastest lap time on the Snaefell Mountain TT course earlier in the day during the Superstock race, averaging 125.470mph with a 20th-place finish. He had appeared in five TT races and 21 races in total at the event.

This is the first recorded death of the 2023 Isle of Man TT and the 267th since the historic event commenced in 1907. The circuit not only hosts the Manx Grand Prix and the Classic TT, but even the TT alone has seen 155 fatalities resulting from accidents, with six deaths last year marking the highest number in one TT. The statement released by organizers confirmed Torras’ passing and acknowledged his racing experience, express their deepest sympathies to his loved ones. The Tuesday race was won by Michael Dunlop, earning his 24th TT victory and cementing his standing as one of the event’s all-time greats. The event resumes on Wednesday with the second Supersport and Sidecar races.
