Is Your Apple iPhone 15 Pro Overheating? Find the Solution to Stay Cool – Orange County Register

By Mark Gurman | Bloomberg

Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max owners are expressing concerns about excessive heat generated by the new devices during usage or while charging, potentially impacting the company’s flagship product.

These complaints have spread across various Apple online platforms and social media networks, including Reddit and X. Customers report feeling heat on the back or side of the phone during gaming sessions, phone calls, FaceTime video chats, and even more intensely when the device is plugged in for charging.

Apple’s support staff have been fielding calls regarding this issue and have directed customers to an existing support article on managing excessive hot or cold temperatures with an iPhone. The article states that overheating may occur during use of resource-intensive apps, during the charging process, or when setting up a new device for the first time.

Apple, based in Cupertino, did not respond to a request for comment.

The iPhone contributes to approximately half of Apple’s revenue, and new models are subject to intense scrutiny for potential flaws. Apple often addresses these issues through software updates or other fixes, but sometimes they resolve themselves over time.

Apple implements thorough testing procedures to identify and rectify any shortcomings before mass production of the iPhone begins.

Device heating is not uncommon, particularly given the powerful processors that drive modern gadgets. The question this time is whether the extent of the heat issue exceeds what consumers consider acceptable.

The iPhone setup process may be contributing to or exacerbating the problem. When users acquire a new phone, the process of re-downloading all apps, data, and photos from iCloud can be lengthy and processor-intensive. Some users speculate that certain background apps like Instagram or Uber could also be triggers for the issue.

Various individuals have uploaded videos demonstrating the use of a thermometer to measure the phone’s temperature. One post states, “The iPhone 15 Pro Max gets really hot easily. I’m just browsing social media, and it’s burning up.” Another user mentions that the device became hot enough to feel through a carrying case.

However, not all iPhone 15 Pro owners are facing this issue. Some claim not to have experienced any problems or that the heat generated is consistent with previous models. For certain customers, using a case at least prevents the device from getting hot to the touch.

One user reported that their iPhone 15 Pro Max got so hot during a call that it automatically shut down and took a few minutes to restart. Apple’s devices occasionally shut down when they overheat or are exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max feature a new A17 chip with a more robust graphics engine, possibly contributing to the heat issue. Additionally, the latest iPhone models have a titanium frame, replacing the stainless-steel design used since 2017.

These concerns arise following complaints from customers about the FineWoven material used in the latest iPhone 15 cases. Several customers have mentioned that the fabric, which replaces leather as part of Apple’s environmental initiatives, is prone to scratches and gets dirty more easily.
