Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson recently engaged with potential voters during a campaign visit to Nishnabotna Valley REC in Harlan, Iowa, where he discussed his energy policy and other important matters. Hutchinson expressed his desire to roll back President Joe Biden’s renewable energy deadlines if he is elected as president in 2024. As governor, Hutchinson rejected millions of dollars in federal relief funding, demonstrating his commitment to fiscal responsibility. Bill McKim, CEO of Nishnabotna Valley REC, agreed that delivering reliable and affordable electricity is essential for energy cooperatives. While supporting efforts to transition to clean energy, he emphasized the importance of an all-of-the-above energy strategy. Hutchinson also expressed his support for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the strengthening of background checks for firearms purchases. He believes that as a governor, he understands how to effectively accomplish goals and aims to strengthen Medicaid and the military, promote domestic manufacturing and energy production, and control federal spending. During the event, Hutchinson answered questions on various topics related to energy, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Taiwan’s independence from China. He acknowledged the lack of questions about social issues but later highlighted his conservative stance on abortion rights and transgender participation in sports.
