Do you want to transform your white Asus ROG Ally gaming handheld into a sleek black device? Or perhaps you’re in need of a rugged case that can withstand accidental drops? Look no further because Dbrand has the perfect solution for you – the Killswitch case. You can get this $60 case, just like the one designed for the Steam Deck, which will be available early next year.Killswitch case
You might be thinking, “Didn’t Dbrand have a major recall issue with the Steam Deck case? Wasn’t it discovered to interfere with the fan?” Yes, there was a recall, but Dbrand quickly responded by recalling the cases, admitting their mistake, and replacing them with the Killswitch 2.0. I’ve been testing the new version for months, and it’s incredibly durable and has a grippy texture. Although personally, I prefer using the Steam Deck without the case.
Dbrand has replaced the original magnetic accessory mount of the Steam Deck case with a twist-to-lock bayonet version. This new version securely holds the included kickstand and also allows users to attach the Steam Deck to other objects or add a large external battery using their own 3D printed universal mounts. However, the ROG Ally version does not have the accessory mount. Instead, it features a fixed kickstand and a large mesh grille for proper ventilation.
Adam Ijaz, CEO of Dbrand, mentioned that they have been closely collaborating with the Asus ROG engineering team to ensure the compatibility of the Ally version with Asus hardware. Asus provided valuable guidance on distinguishing between decorative vents and essential airflow vents. They even paid Dbrand to design the Ally version. The case has ample clearance for all charging cables and Asus’ XG Mobile external GPU connector. In comparison, the Steam Deck case requires a short USB-C extension to accommodate the low-profile cable of the official Steam Deck Dock.
