Introducing Scooter, the Recently Crowned ‘World’s Most Quirkiest Dog’

“As soon as he settles on your lap, with his hairless booty and backward legs, you can feel his warm and huggable power to redefine the concept of ‘ugly’.” These words come from a judge in the World’s Ugliest Dog contest, describing a pup named Scooter who managed to win the somewhat dubious title. Scooter is a seven-year-old Chinese crested, mostly bald, with hind legs that are reversed, and a tongue that doesn’t quite fit inside his mouth. However, he possesses the extraordinary ability to walk upright on his front legs.

Scooter was abandoned by his breeder as a puppy due to his deformity, and at one point, his life was in danger of being put down. Fortunately, Scooter now gets around in a cart and, in addition to his new title, he also received a $1,500 prize. Owner Linda Elmquist expresses her “overjoyed and incredibly proud” feelings, stating that, “despite the challenges he has faced… Scooter has defied all odds and shown us the true meaning of resilience and determination.” The World’s Ugliest Dog contest, which is approaching its 50th anniversary, aims to celebrate the “imperfections that make all dogs special” and promote animal adoption.
