Argentine soccer superstar, Lionel Messi, has wasted no time in making an impact with Inter Miami. In just one month, he has propelled the team to new heights.
Inter Miami secured their place in the CONCACAF Leagues Cup final with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union. This achievement puts the club in position to win their first trophy in four seasons of competition.
Lionel Messi continues to dazzle on the field. He has scored nine goals in just six games since joining Inter, making him the leading scorer in the Leagues Cup.
It’s remarkable to see Messi’s impact already. After only a few weeks at Inter Miami, he has climbed to the third spot on the club’s all-time scoring list, trailing Gonzalo Higuain by just 20 goals.
Messi’s latest goal came in the 20th minute against Philadelphia. With a powerful shot from over 30 yards out, he found the back of the net, leaving the Union keeper helpless.
Jordi Alba, a seasoned player from Spain, also made his mark with a goal in the first half stoppage time. This was his first goal in four appearances since joining Inter. Philadelphia managed to score one goal through Alejandro Bedoya, but it was not enough to overcome Miami’s dominance.
Miami sealed their victory with a fourth goal from David Ruiz in the 84th minute, leaving no room for a late Union comeback.
In the other Leagues Cup semifinal, Nashville SC defeated Monterrey with a 2-0 victory, setting up an exciting final against Miami.
The final match to decide the trophy will take place on August 19 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Leagues Cup, an annual tournament featuring teams from MLS and Mexico’s Liga MX, has expanded this year to include all teams from each league.
