David Axelrod, a prominent Democratic political strategist and former White House official, emphasized on Sunday the need for President to carefully consider whether he should continue his quest for reelection.
“Only @JoeBiden can make this decision,” Axelrod tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “If he chooses to persevere, he will undoubtedly secure the nomination of the Democratic Party. However, what remains essential is for him to assess the wisdom of this choice, considering whether it aligns with his best interests and those of the nation.”
Axelrod, renowned for his instrumental role in propelling former President Barack Obama to victory in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns, as well as his tenure as a senior adviser, was responding to new polling conducted by The New York Times and Siena. These polls showed Biden facing challenges in key battleground states against former President Donald Trump. Axelrod presented these numbers as a stark reality check.
“It is undeniably late in the game to change course,” Axelrod wrote, “The upcoming year will witness numerous unpredictable events, but Biden’s team maintains his unwavering determination to persist.”
“He has defied conventional wisdom in the past,” Axelrod continued, presumably alluding to the prevailing beliefs, “but this situation will undoubtedly spark genuine concern within the Democratic Party—not merely baseless anxiety, but legitimate apprehension.”
