Individual involved in assault on partner rejoices with champagne

A woman has expressed her disdain for her abusive ex-boyfriend, who recently celebrated his conviction for assaulting her by drinking champagne. Stuart Holdstock, 34, was found guilty of attacking Saskia Reay, 32, causing her to suffer seizures and ongoing health issues. While Ms. Reay continues to deal with the aftermath of their violent relationship, Holdstock took to social media moments after his conviction to share a photo of himself enjoying champagne. This behavior has only further highlighted his lack of respect for the justice system.

Ms. Reay speaks out, saying, “He stamped on me and battered me… For him to celebrate with champagne after being convicted of the assault shows exactly what kind of moron he really is.” The couple met at work in late 2021 and started dating in February 2022. Initially, Ms. Reay was smitten with Holdstock, believing he was the man she had been waiting for. However, their relationship soon turned violent, with Holdstock subjecting her to cruel and unusual punishments, treating her like an animal.

In May 2022, after an event at their home, Holdstock, in a drunken state, pushed Ms. Reay over a chair and forced her out of the house without her belongings. The next day, he shifted the blame onto her and imposed a punishment of forcing her out of the house for a day. Ms. Reay reflects on this time, admitting that she slowly began believing she was responsible for the abuse, as Holdstock had started to brainwash her. Despite the concerns of her parents, who pleaded with her to leave him, Ms. Reay felt trapped and unable to escape.

The abuse escalated, leading to an incident that resulted in Ms. Reay being hospitalized for a brain bleed. Once again, Holdstock blamed her for triggering his temper, and she accepted the blame out of loyalty to him. The situation reached a breaking point in September 2022 when, after drinking excessively, Holdstock launched a brutal attack on Ms. Reay, throwing her around the room and stamping on her. In a state of shock, she confronted him about his actions, to which he callously admitted and continued his assault. Despite suffering from extensive bruising and cuts, she managed to escape and call her family, who promptly alerted the police.

Following a trial at Bolton Magistrates Court on June 16, Holdstock was found guilty of assault by beating. Although he denied the charge, he was ordered to pay a fine of £562 and received a restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms. Reay until September 15, 2024. Despite the difficulties she still faces, Ms. Reay feels proud of herself for finding the courage to stand up against her abuser. She hopes that her story will empower other women and contribute to a safer environment for all.
