An 18-year-old man, Joshua Perez from Thousand Palms, was recently released on $35,000 bond after being arrested in Indio along with a teenage boy for suspected firearm possession. Sergeant Paul Heredia of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reveals that Perez is facing charges of child endangerment, possession of a loaded concealed firearm, and being a gang member in possession of a gun.
The arrest took place when the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force and assisting deputies tried to stop a sedan leaving a residence on Beverly Court in the 83000 block. However, instead of stopping, the vehicle’s driver attempted to flee. After a short pursuit, the vehicle eventually yielded, and all three occupants, Perez, the 16-year-old boy, and the alleged driver Abraham Ruiz from Indio, were taken into custody.
Once the vehicle was stopped, Perez was discovered in possession of a concealed and loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Following the arrest, law enforcement officials served a search warrant at the residence the group was leaving and found a loaded, non-serialized .223-caliber AR pistol. It is alleged that the teenage boy, who has a previous felony conviction and is currently on active juvenile probation, was the owner of the AR pistol.
The teenage boy was subsequently booked into Juvenile Hall in Indio on suspicion of multiple charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a non-serialized gun, being a gang member in possession of a firearm, and being a juvenile in possession of a firearm. On the other hand, Ruiz was cited for evading and was released from custody.
