Indictment of Trump in Classified Documents Case

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been indicted on seven federal criminal charges related to hundreds of classified government documents, which were found at his Florida home after he left the White House. Trump disclosed the indictment on his Truth Social social media site and has been called to appear in court on Tuesday. Trump’s attorney, James Trusty, says the charges include false statements, conspiracy to obstruct and willfully retaining documents in violation of the Espionage Act. The charges, if Trump is convicted, carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Trump is the only U.S. president, former or otherwise, to face criminal charges twice, as he was first indicted in March on charges involving falsifying business records. Trump called the latest charges “election interference at the highest level” and stated “I AM AN INNOCENT MAN! This is indeed a DARK DAY for the United States of America.”
