The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians will donate 200 helmets and uniforms on Friday to three high school football teams in the Coachella Valley Unified School District.
“I am personally committed to prioritizing safety in sports for all of our students, including my own children,” stated Darell Mike, the tribe chairman. “We will be donating the latest football helmet technology, which is currently used by NFL and college teams. Our athletes deserve the same level of protection.”
The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians will donate NFL-approved and used Riddell SpeedFlex helmets to football teams from Coachella Valley, Desert Mirage, and West Shores high schools.
The presentation of the new equipment will occur at 10 a.m. on Friday at the headquarters of the school district in Thermal. Notable attendees will include tribal leadership, Superintendent Luis R. Valentino, assistant superintendent, and athletic directors.
According to tribe officials, this gift signifies the strong bond between the tribe and the school district.
“This is an incredible gift to our 200+ students who make up the teams of our three high schools,” said Valentino in a statement. “The generosity of Chairman Darrell Mike and the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians not only supports heightened safety standards but also instills pride in our players and fosters an elevated sense of team and school spirit through the presentation of new gear and uniforms.”
