Incredible Tale: Russian Woman Survived 80 Years with Needle in Her Brain, Confirms Medical Experts

  • An 80-year-old Russian woman has been living with a needle in her brain since birth, according to doctors.
  • The Sakhalin Ministry of Health stated that they discovered the needle measuring an inch long earlier this year.
  • It is believed that the woman was a victim of attempted infanticide by her parents during a time of famine.

An 80-year-old Russian woman has been found to have a needle measuring an inch in her brain since birth, as reported by local health officials on Monday.

In a Telegram post, the Ministry of Health in the Sakhalin region stated that radiologists discovered the three-centimeter needle during an x-ray scan.

Although the exact timing of the discovery was not specified, it was stated to have occurred in 2023.

The needle was located in the left parietal lobe of the unnamed woman, according to the ministry.

Officials revealed that the needle had been present in her brain since birth, and they suspect that her parents attempted to kill her as an infant.

During times of war and famine, desperate parents would sometimes insert a needle into the soft spot of a newborn’s head before the skull bones fused, known as the fontanelle, which would then close and conceal the needle. However, the baby would usually not survive, the ministry explained.

“Such cases were not uncommon during the famine years,” added the ministry.

The woman, who is now 80, is estimated to have been born around 1943.

Remarkably, she has not experienced any headaches or adverse effects from the needle, according to the Sakhalin health ministry.

Doctors have decided against removing the needle due to concerns that surgery could worsen her condition, as stated by the ministry.

She is currently being monitored by a physician, and her health is not at risk, the ministry added.

Sakhalin is an island with a population of approximately 500,000 people located off the southeastern coast of mainland Russia in the Sea of Okhotsk, just north of Japan’s Hokkaido.

During the early 20th century, Sakhalin was divided between the Soviet Union and the Japanese Empire, but Moscow seized full control of the island during World War II.
