PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Every so often, attending a Philadelphia Phillies game can lead to acquiring one of the most sought-after souvenirs.
Following an eruption of fireworks on the field, a 10-year-old boy ended up leaving with Bryce Harper’s helmet.
Harper, who had been ejected from the game by umpire Angel Hernandez, tossed his batting helmet into the stands.
Hayden Dorfman, a fifth-grade student from Voorhees, New Jersey, initially believed the helmet was headed straight for him, but soon realized he would have to maneuver his way to claim the prized possession.
To quote the young boy, “The helmet got bounced into the aisle, and then like three or four other grown men went for it, and dad knew he wouldn’t get it because he didn’t want to compete with them. So he just said, ‘give it to the kid!’ And then that worked!”

Amidst the scramble of adult fans, Dorfman made the wise decision to step back and avoid any potential harm.
In jest, he shared, “I was just backing up because I did not want to get hurt. I did not want to get involved at the time.”
The surprises were far from over.
After securing Harper’s helmet, Dorfman and his father headed off to grab some food, only to be unexpectedly summoned back to their seats.
Dorfman recounted, “There were about five or six security guards waiting for us at our seats. They said, ‘Harper wants to sign it!’ I handed it over, and approximately 10 minutes later, they returned with the signed helmet. It was a surreal moment!”
On Friday morning, Dorfman proudly brought the helmet to school, becoming the center of attention among his classmates.
Regarding superstitions, Dorfman firmly stated his intent to wear the helmet during every Phillies game, hoping to bring Bryce Harper good luck.
He will be attending Game 2 of the wild card series at Citizens Bank Park.
