In My Opinion, Nuclear Cruise Missiles Are Unnecessary on the Open Seas

Comment on this story:
When the Cold War ended over 30 years ago, President George H.W. Bush made the wise decision to remove nuclear-armed cruise missiles from America’s ships and submarines. However, there is now a proposal to reintroduce a new generation of these missiles back onto Navy vessels, and this would be a mistake. While some argue that placing these missiles on attack submarines would allow for more efficient dispersal of nuclear weapons, there are several drawbacks. It would complicate the missions of these vessels, take up valuable space, require crew members to be recertified, limit participation in naval exercises and port calls, and be destabilizing in terms of international relations. Additionally, there is already a sufficient number of systems in place for delivering tactical nuclear weapons, so there is no need for a fourth system. The cost for developing and deploying these missiles would be substantial, and it would be more beneficial to prioritize fixing the broken maintenance programs for submarines and ships. Overall, bringing back shorter-range nuclear weapons would be both expensive and dangerous.
