In an interview with The Sunday Times, Harrison Ford discussed the aging of the iconic character Indiana Jones.
Ford, who is 80 years old, will be reprising the role in the upcoming fifth installment of the franchise, titled “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” He expressed his desire to address and embrace the character’s old age rather than ignore it.
Since his debut as Indiana Jones in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Ford has become synonymous with the character. The upcoming film will serve as his final portrayal of the beloved archaeologist-adventurer.
“I didn’t want this to deny or play with age, but f***ing dig into it,” Ford explained. “How does it feel to be an old fart in this world?”
Despite the challenges of his profession, Harrison Ford strives to maintain his physical well-being.
In a recent interview with People, Ford discussed his dedication to rehabilitation and physical therapy to recover from various injuries.
He jokingly commented, “I don’t do physical training. It’s just all rehab, physical therapy. I’m really just like an old man.”
Over the course of his career, Ford has endured numerous injuries, including tearing his ACL during the filming of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and suffering a spinal injury while riding elephants for “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”
Recently, he injured his shoulder while rehearsing a fight scene for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”
Despite these setbacks, Ford remains optimistic and looks forward to participating in his favorite activities, such as tennis and cycling, once he has fully recovered.
“I continue to keep myself moving. I love tennis and riding road bikes over a long distance,” he shared. “I can’t play tennis anymore because of my [injured] shoulders, but I’m working on getting back to being able to play. And I can’t ride my bike yet.”
