Impressive Hole-in-One at St. Jude Championship Achieved by Sam Burns

Sam Burns made waves during the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship when he flawlessly executed a 162-yard hole-in-one on the 11th hole. This impressive feat marks Burns’ second hole-in-one in just two months, following his previous success at the U.S. Open in mid-June.

As Burns approached the 157-yard par-3 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, he confidently struck his tee shot, which landed directly in the right side of the cup. The 27-year-old golfer couldn’t contain his joy and celebrated with a smile and a hug from his caddie, Travis Perkins.

Burns raised his 9-iron in appreciation to the crowd, receiving congratulations from fellow golf pros Matt Kuchar and Alex Smalley. Smalley himself achieved a hole-in-one at the renowned par-3 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass during March’s Players Championship.

Although Burns remained relatively calm during the achievement, tossing the ball behind the green, he humbly acknowledged his position in the tournament, stating, “When you’re in 63rd place out of 70 people, there’s not a ton to celebrate.” Nonetheless, he added, “Yeah, I couldn’t make any putts today, so I figured I’d just get it done on the first shot. It was fun.”

Starting the day at TPC Southwind 3-over for the tournament, Burns’ hole-in-one propelled him back to even par. Building on his achievement, he went on to make birdies on the 12th and 14th holes, concluding his round with pars.

Despite his disappointing performance during the week, dropping to the 61st spot in strokes gained and putting, Burns remains optimistic for the future. Reflecting on his week, he expressed his hope for a quick recovery, saying, “It’s one of those things where you just have a bad week on the greens, but hopefully it’s just this one week. I do hope I can keep those hole-in-ones coming. I can make those, I guess.”

In moments like these, Burns proves his prowess on the course, showcasing his skill and dedication to the sport. As an avid golfer, he looks forward to further success and the opportunity to continue delivering impressive performances.
