Impacted Services During Walkout Periods

Commuters will experience travel chaos this summer as 20,000 rail workers prepare for a three-day strike in their ongoing pay dispute. The situation worsens as train drivers announce a fresh overtime ban, posing a threat to services during the peak summer holiday season.

Multiple train operators across England have failed to make a revised pay offer, leading RMT members to walk out once again. This latest strike action will adversely affect fans hoping to attend two Ashes Tests and The Open Championship golf tournament.

In addition, London Underground workers have planned four days of walkouts in July.

When are the next train strikes?

The RMT has confirmed that 20,000 rail workers encompassing station staff, train managers, and catering workers throughout the UK will strike on the following dates:

  • Thursday, July 20
  • Saturday, July 22
  • Saturday, July 29

These three days of strikes will have an impact on cricket fans traveling to the fourth and fifth Ashes Tests. The fourth Test is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester from Wednesday, July 19 to Sunday, July 23. The fifth Test in London runs from Thursday, July 27 to Monday, July 31.

The strikes also coincide with The Open Championship, which will occur from Thursday, July 20 to Sunday, July 23 at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Furthermore, train drivers have announced a fresh overtime ban. Aslef members from 15 train operating companies will refuse to work overtime from Monday, July 31 to Saturday, August 5 as part of a long-standing pay dispute.

This marks the fourth week-long ban on overtime since May. Previous strikes by RMT and Aslef have caused havoc for rail passengers, affecting thousands of people attending the FA Cup final at Wembley, the Epsom Derby, Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” world tour concert at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Eurovision final in Liverpool.
