A 45-year-old man was fatally shot by police after allegedly firing gunshots near officers conducting a traffic stop in the Manchester Square area. The victim has been identified as Michael Edward Meadows. The shooting took place at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday near Florence and Western avenues, according to the county Medical Examiner’s office and Los Angeles Police Department.
According to a statement released by the police several hours after the incident, officers were in the process of conducting a traffic stop for a red-light violation in the area of Western Avenue and Florence Avenue when they heard and witnessed a male suspect discharging multiple shots. In response, the officers returned fire, striking the suspect and ultimately causing his death. A ghost gun, found at the scene, will be taken into evidence. The motive behind the suspect’s actions and his intended target are still under investigation.
Prior to the shooting, the suspect approached the officers on foot and initiated gunfire, prompting the officers to defend themselves.
Fortunately, none of the officers sustained any injuries during the incident.
As part of their ongoing investigation, the police discovered an illegal marijuana dispensary. Approximately six individuals present at the dispensary were detained and transported to the LAPD’s 77th Street station.
