Royal Caribbean has recently announced that its newest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, has become the fastest-selling ship in the company’s history. The ship’s debut Caribbean voyage in January 2024 is already selling out fast, leaving only limited spaces available. With a capacity for 7,600 guests, Icon of the Seas is being hailed as the “best-selling product in the history of the business” by CEO Michael Bayley.
Recently, the colossal vessel took to the open waters for sea trials, capturing breathtaking footage of its impressive size and features. Measuring 1,198 feet long and weighing 250,800 gross tonnes, the ship effortlessly glides through the water, overshadowing the tug boats assisting in steering. The upper deck of the ship showcases vibrant, multi-colored slides, which are just a few of the remarkable attractions onboard. Icon of the Seas also boasts the first suspended infinity pool at sea and a three-story family suite. The ship’s livery and various technical areas were put to the test during these trials, which involved over 2,000 specialists, four tugboats, and more than 350 hours of work. Fortunately, the ship passed with flying colors, guaranteeing a successful maiden voyage.
Icon of the Seas is set to become the world’s biggest cruise ship, surpassing its predecessor, Wonder of the Seas, another Royal Caribbean vessel. Wonder of the Seas measures 1,187 feet long and weighs 236,857 gross tonnes. As construction progresses, a dedicated crew neighborhood is being built, spanning four decks and providing a comfortable home for the ship’s 2,350 crew members.
Guests onboard Icon of the Seas will have a plethora of accommodation options to choose from, including a stunning three-story family suite, Surfside Family Suites, Sunset Corner Suites, and Panoramic Ocean View quarters. The ship offers an abundance of water features, such as the largest waterpark at sea, known as “Category 6,” featuring record-breaking slides. Thrill Island provides an adventure-packed experience, allowing vacationers to push their limits and conquer new heights. Additionally, Chill Island presents the first swim-up bar at sea, Swim & Tonic, as well as the largest pool at sea, Royal Bay Pool.
Other standout attractions include a suspended infinity pool in The Hideaway, surrounded by a sun terrace with whirlpools. Another must-visit is AquaDome, a transformative destination offering tranquil daytime experiences with breathtaking ocean views and an awe-inspiring waterfall. By night, AquaDome turns into a vibrant entertainment hub, featuring restaurants, bars, and aqua shows.
Icon of the Seas will embark on seven-night Caribbean voyages throughout 2024, and plans are already underway to launch another Icon-class ship in 2025. Royal Caribbean is delighted with the overwhelming response and interest in Icon of the Seas, which has resulted in record-breaking bookings. The company looks forward to welcoming guests onboard this remarkable vessel in January 2024.
