When Overwatch 2 shifted its hero shooter economy from loot boxes to a seasonal battle pass, the highly-anticipated customizable Mythic Skins were promised as the ultimate reward at the end of the pass. Unlike any other skin in the game, these Mythic Skins would offer unique style and color options, allowing players to make them their own. Over the first year, seven iconic heroes were given these Mythic skins, and they were generally well-received. However, after Blizzard revealed season eight’s skin for tank character Orisa, players began to notice a decline in the quality of the Mythic Skins.
Since the launch of Overwatch 2, there have been several remarkable Mythic Skins. For instance, Tracer’s Adventurer skin, Ana’s A-7000 Wargod skin, and Kiriko’s Amaterasu skin have been highly praised for their unique designs and personalization options. However, in recent seasons, the customization options for Mythic Skins have diminished, with the quality of skins taking a downward turn.
Earlier Mythic skins came in different interchangeable color palettes, weapon appearances, and costume pieces, providing players with plenty of room for customization. However, the latest seasons have removed some of that personalization. For example, Hanzo’s Onryō skin offers fewer customization options compared to the previous Mythic Skins. This trend is set to continue with Orisa’s upcoming Grand Beast skin, which appears to lack the unique and customizable features of previous Mythic Skins.
As pointed out by some fans, Orisa’s base Mythic Skin bears a striking resemblance to her bug-like Megasoma skin, and the reveal trailer suggests that the customization options have been significantly reduced. This is a disappointment to players who have eagerly anticipated the release of Mythic Skins.
The lack of personalization in recent Mythic Skins is disheartening for avid players, and it appears that Overwatch 2 has prioritized other types of cosmetics over the highly-anticipated and coveted Mythic Skins. As a fan of the game, it’s disappointing to see a decline in the quality and customization of these once revered skins.
