Host Alleges Booking.com Has Failed to Pay Him Since June, Owes $63,000

  • A rental host alleges that Booking.com has not paid him for several months, resulting in a debt of $63,000.
  • Mark Winship claims that he has even been invoiced for commissions on payments he has not received.
  • According to Booking.com, a “small number” of hosts have not been paid due to “technical issues.”

A vacation property host in the UK claims that Booking.com still owes him approximately $63,000 as it has not paid him for customer stays since June.

Mark Winship, a 42-year-old owner of serviced houses and apartments in Southampton, Yeovil, and Leicester, states that he has faced difficulties in paying his staff due to these delays, according to a report by the BBC.

Winship also reveals that Booking.com has been invoicing him for commission fees on payments he has not received, and he is aware that many other hosts are experiencing similar issues.

“As hosts, we have been kept completely uninformed. We still remain uncertain about when or if we will be paid,” adds Winship in his BBC interview.

In a recent episode of his show, “The Secret Serviced Podcast,” Winship discusses the fact that there is still no indication of payment at the beginning of the week.

One of Winship’s staff members, who spoke to a Booking.com representative, confirms that there is no information regarding the arrival of payments.

Consequently, Winship and his team have begun contacting customers, urging them to book directly with his family-owned business.

“Since nobody is aware of the situation, customers cannot be certain about the safety of their money. And naturally, if we don’t receive payment for their booking, strictly speaking, we should not provide them access to the property,” explains Winship.

Winship clarifies that his intention is not to undermine online travel agents; however, his team is compelled to take action due to these unprecedented circumstances.

Booking.com assures the BBC that they are urgently working to resolve the payment delays, which were caused by planned system maintenance.

The company states that the majority of hosts were informed about the delays in advance and have already received their payments.

However, they acknowledge that there have been unforeseen technical issues in a small number of cases, which are being swiftly resolved by their team.

The BBC highlights that numerous hosts across the UK are still pursuing payment from Booking.com for property rentals and holiday stays.

As of now, neither Winship nor Booking.com has responded to requests for comment outside of regular business hours.
